While I love shooting at the beach, there are so many wonderful places on Cape Cod! For Grace's senior session, we went to Bourne Farm. It's absolutely stunning this time of year with all of the blooms and it could not have been more perfect for Grace!
I don't get to photograph a lot of seniors, but much like the previous engagement session you saw on the blog, I LOVE it when I get to do these. It's a change of pace from babies and toddlers and allows me to push my creativity as a photographer in a different way. Not to mention, it's so much fun getting to hear about all of the exciting things to come...graduation, college, jobs, etc., and it's an honor to be able to document such a monumental achievement for them.
To just be a senior, Grace has poise and strength about her that is well beyond her years. When her mom, Kate, first reached out about taking her senior photos, she mentioned that Grace wanted to use her session to help bring awareness to her chronic illness.
Grace has a genetic condition called Ehlers Danloes Syndrome (EDS) and also suffers from Gastroparesis. As a result, she's reliant on a feeding tube for nutrition and connected to it for 22 hours out of the day. Rather than letting her health define or limit her, Grace has made it her mission to not only self-advocate for herself but educate others.
From Kate: "Grace doesn't let any of that hold her back though! She is an incredible ballet dancer, but her favorite form of dance is Jazz. Her high school theater group at Sturgis West is truly where her heart is. She loves school, and Biology is her favorite subject. Grace hope's to go to nursing school after high school on her path to working in genetics. She drives to the beach almost every day after school. Sometimes alone, other times with friends. Cape Cod beaches are her happy place for sure, especially at sunset. Her 5-year-old sister is what she cherishes most!"
I'm so glad that we were able to document her senior photos at a place she loves. We could not have asked for a more beautiful evening- we laughed, she danced and I was able to learn more about her story.
Grace, it was truly an honor to photograph your senior photos. Congratulations!
